In  2011  Kim teamed up with bass Player Chris Perry and drummer Gordon Heazlewood to form a trio to record and perform his original music.

The resulting album GUITAR PENITENTIARY shows Kim's playing and writing in a new light and demonstrates the empathetic teamwork this trio has already created.

The all original GUITAR PENITENTIARY finds Kim's new music heavily indebted to the blues rock style which first found him acclaim during his formative days with Jeff St John, Stevie Wright (Easybeats) Ted Mulry and Dutch Tilders on the Oz Pub circuit.

This return to roots allows for far more musical exploration and self expression, It also enhances the Surf, Latin and Country influences prevalent in his playing and material.

The Hammond and piano featured on several tracks are contributed by one of Kim's long time studio associates, John Roy.

Whilst Instrumental music is Kim's passion, he has put pen to paper for one vocal exception, WAITING FOR YESTERDAY, which chronicles issues he was forced to deal with over the past few years. The amazing vocal talent of Bernice Hickford takes centre stage on this tune.

GUITAR PENITENTIARY has already received accolades for production, diversity and originality within a familiar framework and high standard of performance, while Kim's guitar playing has drawn comparisons with some of the most respected names in the business.

It has been most aptly summed up by the reviewer who succinctly stated  "Kim Humphreys has created his own space"
